CLINICAL ELECTIVE PROGRAMME FOR FOREIGN MEDICAL STUDENTS
1) General Requirement
a) Application Submission
To apply for elective placement at HAMS (Hospital for Advanced Medicine and Surgery) Hospital in various departments, the applicant must submit the application form, which can be downloaded. click here to download the application form.
The applicant should upload a scanned copy of the completed application form along with the other required documents and send it through mail at info@hamshospital.com. The applicant should submit all the original documents in hard copies before starting the elective program.
Documents Required- Each applicant is required to send the original documents along with the application form which should include the following:
– Two passport-size photos
– Passport Copy
– Application form (can be downloaded from the website)
– Letter of Intent (should include reasons for department preferred)
– Curriculum Vitae
– Recommendation letter-The applicant must attach an original copy of a bonafide student’s testimony signed either by the respective DeanNice Dean/ Assistant Dean or by an authority of equivalent status of a medical school overseeing the academic program.
b) Registration Fee
– Students will need to make a payment of US$ 100.00 (One Hundred US dollars) or equivalent in Nepalese currency for 2 weeks program. Students studying in SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) countries other than Nepalese students will need to make a payment of US$50.00 (Fifty dollars) or equivalent in Nepalese currency.
– However, students who want to get on programs for more than two weeks will have to make additional payments of USO 25.00 for students coming from SAARC countries and US $50.00 for overseas students weekly.
– All payments must be made online via Digital/Card or it has to be transferred to Bank A/C before commencing the elective program.
– Special programs may have different rates which will be made aailable to the candidate on request.

3) Duration of Elective Program
Students are encouraged to do the elective only in one department where the minimum duration should not be less than 2 weeks. However, those willing to do electives in more than one department are advised to mention in the application form. Specification of the date and duration for doing the elective should be clearly mentioned in the application form.
4) Course description
While undergoing elective programs at the major departments of the HAMS Hospital, the medical students will have opportunities to get familiar with the commonly prevalent medical and surgical problems of Nepal. They will get first-hand experience of many tropical diseases and common health problems of a developing country. During the elective program period, students will attend morning conferences (wherever applicable), and ward rounds conducted by faculties of the respective clinical departments. Candidates will also be placed in the outpatient & emergency departments, where they can observe a variety of clinical cases. In such sessions, students could discuss the clinical findings, investigation plans, and therapeutic management of the patients.
5) Working hours
Students are expected to work at least 8 hours per day, six days a week. Saturday is off.
